I have started my job at TrueValue and I LOVE IT!!!!

It is a small hardware store, and i have learned all of the basics now and im very comfortable there. TrueValue Hardware is on the list of the 2009 Customer Service Champs (Bloomburg.com).

Before, when i started, i was just working as a cashier, but now, i have become familiar with the locations of many items so i can direct customers to where they need to be. I also learned how to cut keys, and chain. I know how to mix paint as well, but ill leave that to the experts there, so i dont mess it up.

Whenever i answer the phone, i have to say, “Triangle Pharmacy, TrueValue Hardware, Just Ask Rental, this is Jack”. As you can guess, this gets tiring after a while!

The final class in my normal school day is Mass Communication, taught by the great Mr. Shear. This class is all about understanding the media and interpreting movies. Mostly, during monday through Wednesday we get lectures on various media-related items, and have a test on thursday. Then, on thursday and friday, we watch a movie. The weekend homework is usually to write a review on the movie, but recently, we have been filling out worksheets based on the movie. The subject of the class is kind of vague, but we learn a lot from Mr. Shear. This is also the class that i am doing these blogs on. So, lets end with this: Mr. Shear is the best teacher ever, and PLEASE GIVE ME A GOOD GRADE!

In 3rd period, i have Sports Medicine I with Mrs. McMurray. I think its okay, but i dont like how i have to go to football, basketball, and soccer games to get hours to practice what we learn in class. We need 18 hours per quarter, and i have done about 24.5 of the 36 total needed hours, so im a little behind. Most of the time, all i do is give water and sit around doing nothing, except i sometimes sneak away to talk to friends in band and in the stand. Then i get caught and have to stock the bag of supplies. And at the end, we have to wheel all of the supplies back to her office. Overall, its not that great.

I am also taking Spanish II, in 2nd period. It is taught by Mrs. Bridge. This is my least favorite class of this semester. I have been learning Spanish since 3rd grade, but that was pretty much Spanish I streched out for 7 years, so it didnt help that much. I have around a B/C ( around 85). My parents arent very happy with that, but i dont really care. My teacher is quite old, and she has lost some of the classes assignments. And this isnt just me, the rest of the class says this. It is muy dificil.

This year i am taking a Photography 101 class. It is taught by Mrs. Cyweck. She is very artsy, and seems to know everything about art and photography. We learn about elements in photography, taking portraits, developing negatives, and more. We even learned how to take a pinhole picture! This used a box that was light tight and covered a hole with thin metal and poked a hole in the metal. We covered that up and when we had the shot ready, took off the cover and left it open for various exposure times.

This is the pinhole picture that i made. I touched it up a little to get rid of the marks, but that is pretty much what i got, and i took it myself.

We also learn how to do cool things on Photoshop, and this is one of them. We took a picture from the internet, and followed a sheet to edit any picture, and i chose this car.

These two pictures were for elements of photography. The one with the trash can is emphasis, because it emphasizes the trash can in the hall, and the rocks on the roof are for texture, and i don’t need to explain that.

I am a sophomore in high school and my subjects for this semester are really easy. I have all electives this semester. You may think it sounds great, but that also means that i will be slammed with work next semester, with all of my honors classes next semester. Now i have Photography, Spanish II, Sports Medicine, and Mass Communication, the class im doing this blog for. Im not too sure about next semester, seeing as though i am unable to locate my class sheet with the class names on it, but i know i have Geometry Honours,English II Honours, Civics and Economics Honours, and Earth & Environmental Science Honours.

As you can see, next semester will be very hard.

I will go into detail these subjects in further blog entries.

Over the end of last year and the summer i had a volunteer job at the Bulls Athletic stadium. My job there was on the camera crew, taping the games. I would either be cameras 1 through 4 or doing the graphics, the statistics that appear at the bottom and have pitchers or batter’s names. Most of the time i do that, but i sometimes work cameras , and mostly camera 1, which is at first base. I met a lot of friends there, and at first it was difficult. so im glad i signed up with one of my friends. Sometimes i would goof off during a game, and got in trouble but it was better when i toned it down. It wasnt a paying job, but it took up time in the summer and was just fun. Now with my paying job, i wont be volunteering there as often, but i might still go a couple of times over the summer. It will be good to see the other people after a year of not working.

heres a pic of the stadium.

Hello again!

It seems as though i have gotten well behing in my blogging, and i will start up again. I have been quite busy with my work schedule, homework, sports, and social activities. I have even started some blogs, and just havn’t finished them and i learned how to put them up if i saved them. This made me feel dumb when i found out seeing as though i might not make a deadline on friday for about 24 blogs, and this is my 12th or 13th blog. I do take care in the detail in my blogs, though, and i just need to get into a better habit with my blogging. My excuse before was writer’s block, then i realized it was plain laziness, so now i will hopefully buckle down and get down to business. Get ready!

In our family, we have had a car passed through my sister to my brother and now finally to me, once i get my licence in March. It is a white 1995 Toyota Corolla. It used to be my mom’s car, but she got a new corolla and my dad has the Camry. Since it is 1 year younger than me, its pretty beat up, but it still runs fine. My siblings wanted to make a name for it, so they called it the Tooth (because its white). The strangest thing about the Tooth is its a/c. It’s from 1995, yet its a/c works better than my parents new cars! Also, the dashboard is loose, so i jammed paper in the space so it doesnt make an annoying noise all the time. I am going to take care of it because my siblings werent as good about that. Whenever i went in it, i saw trash everywhere. My brother has done the most damage, mostly from trying to drift in it and failing. Miserably. Weve gone through a couple of rims due to that. Also, we had a great pioneer radio in it, but one night, when it was parked in front of our house, someone broke into the Tooth and stole the radio. We were radio-less for a while, then we got a new one, but now we park the car in our neighbour’s driveway. The Tooth may be old, but it is a great car.

Heres a pic of another “Tooth”

This isnt our car, just one pic i found.

I am a member of my high school’s Ultimate Frisbee club. It is mostly carefree, but it gets intense around game time. Right now, there are about 16 solid members, and 7 go on the field at one time. This means that if you want to play in the game, you have to excel in practice, which i do most of the time. We have 2 captains, and they are like coaches, because they decide who goes on and off. Other teams have coaches, but i guess we are just special. There is a North Carolina Association for Ultimate Frisbee clubs in high schools. My school won the state-wide championship 3 years ago.

You are probably wondering how to play Ultimate Frisbee. Well, first there are 2 teams, with 7 players on the field. The field is as big as a high school soccer field, and sometimes is. One team throws off(pulls) the frisbee to the other team, usually depending on who is home. The other team catches the frisbee and tries to gain as many yards as they can before the other team gets there. When they get to the frisbee, there are 3 different kinds of plays: man to man, stack, or zone. Man to man is exactly how it sounds, stack is when all players line up from the point of the player with the frisbee and to the end zone. When the play starts, People from the back cut to the end zone then back to the Handler(the player with the frisbee) and try to get it thrown to them and catch it, then repeats. Zone is the most complicated. There are 3 handlers, 2 wings, and 2 poppers on offence. On defence there is a cup with 3 people, who follow the person with the frisbee, 2 wing guards, a short-deep defender in the middle, and a deep-deep defender to stop long throws, like a safety. Zone is usually played on windy days.

The frisbee looks like this:
